What is the point of "social networking" sites?

So I was wondering, is there still a point to what is called "the creation social networking "sites? I mean, all they do is sit there" OMFG OMFG ?!!!??!" have friends and talk to people. Why even do? If you want to socialize, why not join a forum or something? Or better yet, play a MMORPG where you can really do things like hunting and competition, while "social networking"? In reality, they are "social networking" sites are 100% irrelevant or actually I'm used to ignore? All that seems be is where Camwhore and several others. cancer that kills the Internet can publish photos of the poor themselves and the type Lyke DiS.

They are for the dregs of the Internet as a fanboy / fangirl freaks, furfags, emotards, and other idiot. Avoid at all costs. MMOs are the way to go because you really have a way of "idiots, without being insulting & B and actually does nothing but sit and mourn "OMG sum1 IMMA KEWL PERSON FRIEND ME! 1! 1!".
